Established in 2015, Freight took over the iconic building at 1913 South Flores, which formerly housed Joe Lopez’s historic Gallista Gallery. Freight underwent extensive renovations in 2016/17 in an effort to provide the artistic community of San Antonio with a beautiful gallery space that is modern, striking, and inviting. Throughout the transformation, Freight’s mission has remained steadfast: to provide artists with a space that will not only challenge them but also allow them to explore and incubate ideas on their own terms, while maintaining a spirit of inclusivity and collaboration.
Freight is also home to seven artist-run studios that function both as parts of a whole and their own independent businesses. The disciplines covered by the studios include everything from screen printing to ceramics to contemporary art curation and exhibition. Each studio brings a unique perspective and history to the Freight collective experience.
Freight serves as a venue space that is both remarkable and beautiful, offering a creative urban setting for weddings, receptions, corporate meetings, and dinners.
Bindle at Freight is a retail space offering one of a kind merchandise from local artists.
